Importance of Style

People, for the most part, like to see very cool websites.

A website is a content delivery device above all else. This is why accessibility and usability are important concerns. Without these attributes a website, any website, will not fulfill its purpose. It may as well be kept on a local computer. This is logical thinking, right? So why is style important? Where does this seemingly emotional aspect of design fit in?

Tyssen Design

Tyssen Design site When first landing on the Tyssen Design site you’re immediately greeted by this wooden figure. It’s cool. What’s more cool is how the theme is carried throughout the site. It’s not perfect, but this site has many strong features and is supported by what seems to be a solid build. The graders were most impressed by how open, readable, and to-the-point the site is.

Train 2000

Train 2000 site The Train 2000 web site speaks of its purpose as soon as you land on it. It says: “Hello, I’m an attractive website but don’t let that fool you, I’m hard at work here.” That’s what we thought, anyway. Train 2000 looks good, pleasing, respectful to its visitors, but underneath is where it really shines. Sure we found some stuff, but this is a well thought out site with a really open feel and dedicated purpose. Oh, and it’s really quite accessible which its users are bound to appreciate. To date, this is our highest-scoring submission.

Rosetta Caravan Park

Rosetta Caravan Park site Some of the Team Access graders had seen the Rosetta Caravan Park site a while back. It’s memorable because it’s really quite exemplary of stylish accessibility with very few trade-offs. The simple, straight-forward presentation really fits the content well, and things like the navigation list and random image banner lends elegance without too much sacrifice. Of course we did find a few things such as the lack of an image replacement technique, but it’s our job to uncover such things so we can all learn and improve. All-in-all, though, this site is quite good.
