Toggle Our FAQs

Posted February 10th, 2006 by Team Access

No longer in use: We just added a new feature to this site. Specifically, we added and implemented Thierry Koblentz’s Toggle DL script. The script allows users with JavaScript or “active scripting” enabled to hide and show the answers to our FAQs. This saves space on the page and allows an easier overview of our questions, a real usability plus. As our FAQs grow over time, this feature will be even more valuable to our site’s visitors. And if scripting isn’t supported, the FAQs reveal themselves fully — and the how-to instructions disappear. All good, and fully accessible to all site users. Two words: Very cool! And two more words: Thanks Thierry!

Thanks also goes to Jonathan Fenocchi for installing the script and performing its basic set-up. Then some thanks to Mike for fully integrating the script into the site and breaking it down into units so that each style sheet can maintain control of these elements, handling the instructions and their display, and managing the JavaScript link negotiation so that all scripts are only called onto pages requiring them. It was fairly involved but very worthwhile. We hope you’ll enjoy this new feature. We imagine this will be showing up on many sites soon, and perhaps be put to use in other capacities. It could certainly be useful in many ways.
