Univ of California, Berkeley - Spanish Dept
The University of California, Berkeley - Spanish Dept site is immediately stunning and impressive. Style, accessibility, usability, it really has it all. Both graders assigned to this site agreed on nearly every point, both finding the same high points and lows almost to the letter. Both graders also came to the same conclusion about this site: Even though it isn-t the recipient of our highest score of the year, if only a few items that were lacking were addressed, this site could’ve won our Timeless-level award — which would have been a first. We now know it is possible. It was a few minor issues that held it back and this was determined by both graders as both saw what was needed to push it to the next level. Possible missteps aside, this site is no slouch and is indeed a work of technical art.

I-cre8
The I-Cre8 web site is another simple-but-effect site that gets the job done. We find small, simple sites especially challenging to grade. These steps were taken in the area of legal information so it stands to reason certain steps would have been reasonable in the area of accessibility as well. All in all, though, it is a good site that deserves recognition here.

Islamic Culture Foundation
The Islamic Culture Foundation site is an instantly striking site. Seriously, it’s got its groove on for sure. Most sites like this are so design oriented they seriously lack in most other areas. Not this site, though. This site is actually pretty good. It could be more accessible for sure, but we like the attempt. It does have flaws: The graders thought it was functionally quite simple using WordPress and a few plugins. It was also thought of as perhaps a bit over the top considering its more serious subject matter. “Akin to a designer’s blog,” one grader noted.
