Why Bother with Web Accessibility?

Posted March 16th, 2007 by Mike Cherim

I'm Busy I don't have time Why should I care? As other have done before us, we’re going to try and make a business case for web accessibility. We’re doing it by way of a short presentation. This sort of thing shouldn’t really be needed. The obvious ethical and moral side of web accessibility should be enough to motivate people, but we know that’s not always the case. Without further ado, here’s our take on answering the often asked question: “Why Web Accessibility Makes Sense.”

We hope you enjoy the message. Use of the presentation tool should be clear, but if not, do ask us. We’ll try to help. For other related resources, do check out the links on the presentation’s “Summary” page.

You make it sound so easy, Mike. You know what? It really is pretty easy. Your article is a great summary of the practical steps necessary to begin the process of building an accessible web site. Anyone who wants to advance the accessiblity of the sites they design would be well served to follow the advice in this article and in other articles you have written.

Thanks for banging-the-drum for accessible web design and for attracting the attention of designers who otherwise may simply have not noticed.

My only comment would be that you talk about CSS on page 2 with the emphasis seemingly on the developer on Page 2 but then talk about it for the benefit of the site owner with more explanation about what it is on Page 6. Maybe need to re-order that a little bit.
