Avenue Designers

Posted April 24th, 2007 by Marco Battilana

Avenue Designers site The Avenue Designers site has a clean design that highlights the typical aspects of a web design business. Its straightforward organization of the content compliments the simple yet effective design of the site. This results in a favourable experience for the user in terms of easily finding the necessary information.

The site does have some issues to address. One of the major issues is semantics. There is definite issue with some unusual ordering of the headings as well as a vast number of clearing <div> elements. There are also issues with keyboard users and the ability to tab through certain content (in particular, the Contact, Quote and Portfolio pages). In addition to this, there are issues around some of the alternate text supplied for the images, lack of a print Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) and accesskey assignment.

The Avenue Designers website was designed by Shane Holland. After a detailed review, has been deemed eligible for an Award Level of: “Notable Universal Design.” Congratulations Shane!

Great work, Shane. I will leave the analysis of the quality and accessibility of the site up to the experts. What I feel qualified to comment on is how your website looks, and I think it looks fantastic. I really like the use of the three images on the Home page. They are pretty cool, plus their use adds to a terrific overall symmetry. Nice job!

Thanks guys. I’ve already started implementing some of the suggestions from the full commentary on the website by Team Access. Hope to keep improving - thanks again!
