One Small Change
Our hope is to find more web site gems that reach the higher award levels.
We’ve decided to make a small change around here: We’ve decided to not rely solely on submissions from visitors. We’re going to start adding a few sites to the grading queue ourselves as we happen to stumble upon them. If we find a great site out there that we deem exemplary, we want to showcase it — this will be done with the site owner’s permission, of course. We’ve never hit the bottom of our queue, but we have decided this might be a good thing to do all the same. It is because of our high rejection rate.
The Numbers
We used to show our submission stats on the footer of our old site, but don’t on the new design. We still keep them, though, and will share them here so you’ll see what we mean:
To date 306 sites have been submitted, of which a whopping 210 have been rejected. We have 7 sites in our queue right now pending grading. We’ve graded 89 sites so far, of which only 69 have been given awards, the remaining 20 sites came very close.
Of those we’ve awarded, 37 have been given “Notable” awards, 27 have earned a “Quality” award, 5 excelled to the “Classic” award level, and none have been given our coveted “Timeless” award. The individual category numbers are actually available on our sidebar categories menu.
But Why?
Our hope is to find more web site gems that reach the higher award levels. The sites we showcase aren’t lacking, but we should see — and want to show you — a greater number of Classics, and maybe even a Timeless. Hopefully this is a good idea. We really want to show people what can be done while still respecting accessibility. And as always, if you know of some drop dead gorgeous accessible sites, please let us know.

I didn’t realize you folks worked on submissions only.
Can readers submit sites, or should it be only the sites owners?
Where is the submission form then?
thanks.

Hi Ty. People can submit qualifying sites they find, not just ones they make. To submit, just use our dual-purpose form

Mmm may have to think about submitting some of mine but that could be a death wish

Wow! 306 sites or you might say 306 web designers submitted their masterpieces and only 69 passed the group’s standards. This is like Webby Awards for Accessible Sites!
I must say, it is undoubtedly a great honor if you would receive an award from Accessites. This is an award with a cause, that is to promote sites that break the barriers in accessing information through the Internet and at the same time showcase their creativity. Congratulations to the group and keep up the wonderful work!
Btw, does Webby Awards include web accessibility as one of their criterias?
