GeoFeat
The GeoFeat site is a fine example of a site with an effective brand — “the directory with a difference.” The first visual impressions gives the user a very good idea of what the site is about and what it’s trying to achieve along with it’s complimentary content. The brand is further amplified with the site’s clean and earth-like design. As well, the site also demonstrates strong semantics and a strong layout of the content.
A major issue with this site is the lack of a site search. For a site to have the opportunity to source products, share resources, and participate in projects with others, there should be an easy way for potential and existing members to have quick access to this type of information quickly and efficiently. Not very usable for the individual, unfortunately.
Another notable concern is the style sheet handling for print and handhelds. With regard to handheld, there are potentially serious layout issues with some mobile devices. With the print layout, there simply isn’t one set up at all.
In addition, the site also lacks an accessibility statement and has some structural issues with it’s “General Enquiry Form” and the use of legend with the form controls.
The GeoFeat site was designed by Roger Burrell. After a thorough review, the site has been deemed eligible for an Award Level of: “Notable Universal Design.” Congratulations Roger!
