Pacifica Training

Posted April 8th, 2008 by Phil Smears

Visit Pacifica Training The Pacifica Training site is smart looking, has a nice logo and oozes neatness. Use of graphics is minimal with only two background images used on the whole site! The site had a nice liquid layout which performs well across desktop browsers and text resizes without too many issues. We felt that a couple of more images to support content wouldn’t have hurt. The code generated by this custom WordPress theme is for the most part, clean, lean and semantic.

The feedback given to users who incorrectly fill forms would work better by displaying a list of all omissions and errors and linking them to the relevant form fields. There were some repetitive ‘Read more’ links in the articles section of the site which could have been made more explicit to improve scannability, navigation by screen readers and, as a bonus, search engine rankings. Navigation around the site could have been improved with a more consistent main menu, explicit page titles on every page as well as a site map and search facility which shouldn’t be too difficult to implement using WordPress plugins.

Overall, the site was simple, effective, well coded and shows how much can be achieved without going image crazy. Users on low bandwidth will particularly benefit from this approach.

The Pacifica Training website was crafted by Edward Clarke and following review was deemed eligible for an Award Level of: “Notable Universal Design.” Congratulations Edward!

    Nice work, Edward.

I particularly like the simplicity of design. Your font is also large enough to make reading the text very easy. It’s rare to not have to struggle a bit with font size - at least that is what I find as I get older.

Why is it that they are using a photoshop custom shape as their logo. Everything else about the site looks professional. :)
