Bernard Herenmode
The Bernard Herenmode site has paid a lot of attention to accessibility, which is a rare thing amongst commercial sites. Pages are well structured with sensible use of headings and lists where appropriate. Links within content have been made clearly visible, although slightly overused. Text resizes without breaking layout for the most part — logo goes wandering a little. Page titles and meta data are specific to each page and a favicon helps for all those tabbed browser users. With 13 tabs open, yes, favicons help!

GeoFeat
The GeoFeat site is a fine example of a site with an effective brand — “the directory with a difference.” The first visual impressions gives the user a very good idea of what the site is about and what it’s trying to achieve along with it’s complimentary content. The brand is further amplified with the site’s clean and earth-like design. As well, the site also demonstrates strong semantics and a strong layout of the content.

Global Issues
The Global Issues site offers tremendous user support and a remarkable attentiveness to semantic detail. The structure of this site is, overall, well-defined and clear. Visitor support includes optional text preferences, instruction in how to best use their browser via text resizing or alternative navigation, and an excellent 404 error which suggests the most probable pages you might have been trying to find.

ByUsers
The ByUsers site impressed upon us a few things as soon as we loaded the home page: simplicity and open design were two. The purpose of the site was made clear right away, so that was yet another thing we appreciated. We like that: being able to know what a site is about with a few seconds of perusal is a very positive thing. There were some things we didn’t know, of course, such as the tie-in to Virgin Media, but we’re realists and know we can’t get it all in the title and opening paragraph. We did assume that those for whom this site is applicable would know all they needed immediately.
