SnowDog
Kuba Zwolinski’s SnowDog web site is an excellent example of a meld of unique design and standards-based web accessibility. The aged-paper and tape motif is elegantly put together, resizes well, and just plain looks great. From an accessibility perspective, Kuba has clearly put some thought into the site’s underpinnings. The site is easy to navigate by keyboard, since links have strong :focus states and are well-organized. The site also makes use of a script to allow users to set their own access keys, which is a great way to offer custom keyboard shortcuts.

Due Chiacchiere
The Due Chiacchier site has improved significantly since it failed to make our submission queue some time back. The comments we had then have been taken onboard and the site’s overall accessibility has really been enhanced as a result. Keyboard navigation is a breeze due to the clear onfocus styling, there’s some neat use of unobtrusive JavaScript within the Web Assist section to show and hide content and the contact form is very usable in it’s use of error highlighting.

G Plan Upholstery
The G Plan Upholstery site immediately impressed us with its modern and seemingly effective design. It’s professional, clearly communicates, offers great visuals (even some tasteful Flash), and still manages to retain good accessibility. It’s a full site with lots of pages so we can appreciate the effort that went into making it. We were so impressed that we had difficulty in deciding on the award level — it is on the cusp of being eligible for our coveted “Classic Universal Design” award.
