Having a disability can be a big challenge. It can make the everyday activities some people take for granted exceedingly difficult. If one realizes this, and feels empathy, it’s hard to justify creating more barriers that these individuals must overcome. Instead of justification we choose accessibility.
But having or making an accessible web site doesn’t just have a positive affect on the disabled members of our society; the disabled and enabled alike can benefit from an accessible web site. So while removing the barriers that can impede access or dampen the web experience for the disabled is necessary, the positive effects can be further reaching.
Removing barriers is what it’s all about and it’s not that hard to do. Some basic understanding of web site access and usage, coupled with logic and common-sense can make it so.
