Why Web Accessibility Makes Sense » Page 6 of 9

Ease of Maintenance

As noted previously, an accessible site is built validly and compliant with web standards. It will be styled and laid out with a Cascading Style Sheet (CSS). The benefits of CSS are many, but one, a markedly increased ease of maintenance, is significant.

Let’s say you decide at some point in the future you want to adopt a new look for your site. If you’ve styled and laid out your site with a CSS, making this happen can take mere minutes instead of hours or even days of hard work.

A CSS is a shared file used by all pages, so even if you have or are creating a thousand page web site, a single change to this file will be implemented throughout the entire site. Not looking for that? What to be more specific? With a CSS, by using specific classes and IDs, or even targeting a particular element, you can get very specific as well.
